I used to love taking part in treasure hunts as a kid, although I was never very good at them and would invariably get lost, leaving the teachers no option but to scramble a helicopter to come and find me. These kind of trails are a lot more sophisicated than just looking under rocks for clues, and SmartGPX proves a good testiment to that.
This is a game based around in the practice of geochanig, in which you travel the world in search of treasures. "What on Earth is geocaching?" I hear you cry. Well, it's basically a kind of sport in which participants hidden treasures and publish their coordinates in a common forum.
The objective for the rest of the registered members is to reach these coordinates and find the treasure. Using SmartGPX you can tap into this intruiging pasttime, joining a community of geocachers, and enrolling in the search for one of the hidden treasures, before publishing the positions of your own treasures.
It's pretty difficult to get to grips with and you'll need a GPS receiver to accompany your phone, but if you've got the time to spare, SmartGPX makes for an interesting diversion.
